Indigenous Sunday Celebration – ARISE/DEBOUT project following Season III
The theme of Season III of ARISE Together in Christ is Social Justice. Participants are encouraged to engage in social justice activities in their communities. This is not restricted to ARISE participants; it is open to all of society.
In consulting with Bishop Plouffe, we discerned that a project involving the Indigenous peoples of our area would be a valuable experience in sharing cultural traditions of spirituality. To this end a steering committee was formed to gather resources for and guide regional committees in planning a special celebration in May of 2015. A multi-lingual committee will be formed in each of the four zones of the Diocese of Sault Ste Marie (Algoma, North Shore, Sudbury, and Nipissing). Please consult the Timeline document on the Resources page for details.
The Resources page will provide details of ceremonies, rites and music which could be used during the celebrations.
Regional Committees will be formed and begin their planning sessions in January of 2015. The two coordinators of the program (Jean McHarg, ARISE and Mijou Pelletier, DEBOUT) will be available as resource persons to the committees and able to attend the meetings. Celebrations will be different in each zone depending on the needs of the region.
Please contact the coordinators with questions or suggestions.
